Manufacturers of subway sealing strips: What are the precautions and techniques for installing door and window sealing strips?

Jul 14,2022

The manufacturer of subway sealing strips usually installs door and window sealing strips to ensure a tight fit, preventing air leaks. These strips serve to keep out dust, water, and sound. However, many people know very little about them, especially regarding installation. Door and window sealing strips are mainly used for plastic steel doors and windows, aluminum alloy doors and windows, wooden doors and windows, and aluminum-plated plastic doors and windows in building decoration.
Manufacturers of subway sealing strips: What are the precautions and techniques for installing door and window sealing strips?

To ensure tight installation of doors and windows and avoid air leakage, subway seal strip manufacturers usually install door and window seal strips, which serve to prevent dust, water, and sound. However, many people know very little about them, especially regarding installation. Door and window seal strips are mainly used for plastic steel doors and windows, aluminum alloy doors and windows, wooden doors and windows, and aluminum-plastic doors and windows. Generally, the seal strips available on the market are extruded from materials such as PVC, modified PVC, EPDM, elastic sealing strips (including TPV, TPE, TPR, SEBS), and silicone. Depending on their use, they can be divided into three main categories: door leaf and door frame seal strips, wool strips, and glass seal strips (rubber strips). The door leaf/frame seal strips are mainly used for sealing between the door panel and the door frame, wool strips are mainly used for sealing between the door frame and the door leaf, and glass seal strips are mainly used for sealing between the glass, door leaf, and door frame.

Subway seal strip manufacturer: Installation methods for door and window seal strips

1. Glass gaskets and sealing strips

After cleaning the welding area between the window frame and window leaf, use a special roller to gently push the sealing strip into the profile groove in the correct face and direction, pressing the head of the sealing strip down until it is embedded in the profile groove. Since the rubber strip is an elastic body, it may shrink after rolling. The correct method is to install the sealing strip at the two ends by retracting both ends towards the middle, leaving a shrinkage allowance of 2-3cm, and then cut and insert it into the groove.

2. Glass beads

Using the correct face, place the sealing strip into the profile groove by hand, then press the exposed surface of the sealing strip, pushing it into the gap between the glass and the profile. The rubber strips at both ends should be slightly retracted towards the middle, leaving a length of 1-2cm, and then cut off and pressed into the groove.

Subway seal strip manufacturer: Precautions for installing door and window seal strips

1. The subway seal strip manufacturer recommends that before installing the glass, carefully remove any debris such as mortar, brick chips, and wood from the groove. When placing the glass, ensure it is properly aligned to guarantee even gaps on both sides, and fix it correctly and promptly to prevent collisions, displacements, and deviations from the center of the groove.

2. The door and window seal strips should not be pulled too tight. The length of the material should be 2-3cm longer than the assembly length, and during installation, it should be embedded properly. The surface should be flat and in close contact with the glass and the glass groove to ensure even force around the glass. At the corners, cut the sealing strip at an angle and inject glue at the cut point to bond it securely.

3. When sealing and fixing the glass with sealing glue, use door and window seal strips or rubber blocks to press the glass, leaving a gap for glue injection. The depth of the glue should not be less than 5mm, and the glass should remain undisturbed until the glue cures.

4. The installation position of the wool strips is generally around the window (door) leaf, frame leaf, or sealing bridge (windshield) to enhance the sealing between the frame leaves.

5. The top specification is an important factor affecting the waterproof performance of sliding doors and windows, as well as the opening and closing force of the doors and windows. If the top specification is too large or the vertical top is too high, it will not only make assembly difficult but also increase the movement resistance of the doors and windows, especially the initial resistance when opening and the positioning resistance when closing.

6. If the specification is too small or the height of the vertical wool top is insufficient, it is easy to fall out of the groove, greatly reducing the sealing performance of the doors and windows. The appearance of the door and window seal strips should be straight, the base plate and vertical wool should be smooth and not bent, and the base plate should be free of pockmarks, complying with the 0.2mm standard.
