The main uses of polyurethane sealant are in the civil construction industry, transportation industry, etc. In Japan, for example, about 75-80% of polyurethane sealant is used in construction, 15% in automotive and machinery manufacturing, and 5% in civil engineering and other areas.
Specific applications in construction include: the connection and sealing of construction joints for concrete precast components and other building materials, sealing joints between wooden frames of doors and windows and concrete walls, bonding joints for lightweight structures on buildings (such as curtain walls), waterproofing joints for facilities like balconies, swimming pools, and bathrooms, sealing at connections of air conditioning and other systems, and sealing for insulated double-glazed windows and insulated window frames.
Applications of polyurethane sealant in the automotive sector include: assembly sealing of car windows (mainly windshields) and assembly of the car body with other components.
In civil engineering, polyurethane sealant is used for sealing joints with flexibility in high-grade roads, bridges, and aircraft runways, as well as for sealing connections at joints of materials such as concrete, ceramics, and PVC in drainage systems, underground gas pipelines, and electrical conduit pipelines, as well as sealing at connections in subway tunnels and other underground tunnels.
Polyurethane sealant can also be used for flexible joints in cables (such as underground cables), potting of electronic components to prevent dust and resist shock; it is used for insulation systems such as bonding and sealing for refrigerated trucks, cold storage insulation layers, and low-temperature containers, etc.
