Sealant for new energy vehicles has good waterproofing properties
As an indispensable component in the sealing structure design of power batteries, sealant for new energy vehicles ensures the sealing, dustproof, and waterproof of power batteries by fitting with the installation surfaces of the upper and lower shells of the battery. Closed-cell foamed silicone is the main component of the foamed silicone sealing ring, which is processed and bonded with PET double-sided tape, surface treatment agents, etc., and cut into a fixed frame form of O-shaped foamed silicone sealing ring. Compared to traditional carbon-based foamed materials, it has excellent resistance to compression permanent deformation, excellent high and low-temperature resistance, high flame retardancy, and excellent aging and weather resistance, making it an ideal choice for various high-performance sealing, shock absorption, cushioning, sound insulation, protection, insulation, and fireproof materials.
Failures of waterproof materials caused by sealant for new energy vehicles are usually due to: external water pressure exceeding the stress caused by the compression of foamed silicone; the demand for water pressure on the foamed silicone being greater than the friction force between the foamed silicone filler and the power battery system shell;sealant for new energy vehiclesexcessive compression deformation, which is prohibited under various complex design working condition data environments, can compress and rebound but cannot effectively improve sealing performance. A certain type of foamed silicone showed good compression rebound detection performance after completing 1000 cycles of functional testing in an environment of -40 to 85 degrees. At the same time, this foamed silicone exhibited excellent resistance to compression deformation and creep. In the use of this foamed silicone sealing component, the power battery has shown good waterproofing and dustproofing performance. In the management process of selecting foamed silicone sealing components, it is necessary to comprehensively analyze and consider the compression deformation of foamed silicone sealing components, appropriate friction force, good volume-gap matching ratio, and resistance to social environmental factors.
2. Ineffective waterproofing of electrical connectors
High and low voltage connectors, as the input and output medium of power batteries, directly affect the waterproof performance of the entire power battery. The main failure modes of high and low voltage connector waterproofing are:
(1) The Vickers hardness of the power battery connector socket side is too low;
(2) Poor flatness of the connector and socket, and poor fit between the socket and the shell;
(3) Ineffective sealing position of low-voltage communication pins;
(4) The high and low voltage connector plug issealant for new energy vehiclesextruded during the plugging and unplugging process, resulting in irreversible deformation.
In addition to the common waterproof failure modes of electrical connectors mentioned above, there are also issues with connector quality and frequent plugging and unplugging problems after lock failures.
